Organic Skin Care

Cosmetics and skin care products are only loosely regulated by the FDA. This means that some of the things stated on the packaging might not be entirely true. Often times companies can get away with stating a product is organic if they contain thirty to forty percent organic ingredients.

While it’s almost impossible to find one hundred percent organic skin care the consumer should look for at least ninety-five percent organic ingredients. Read packaging carefully if it states it was made with one hundred percent organic ingredients it means that those ingredients were wholly organic- not necessarily the end product. Check for the USDA organic stamp, the USDA doesn’t regulate skin care products, but they do regulate the food or plant items used in them.

Because organic skin care products are commonly made from fruit and plant extracts it’s more common for some to be allergic to the products. Surprisingly there are actually a few natural ingredients that are used in non-organic products. Glycolic acid and malic acid are both hydroxyl acids that remove dead skin cells and come from sugarcane and apples respectively.
