Selecting the right skin care products can be tough if the consumer doesn’t know about the ingredients used to make them. Certain ingredients can be irritating to sensitive skin and some products are just more effective with some of the new beneficial ingredients that science has recently discovered. Below is a list of some ingredients commonly seen in skin care products and their functions.
•Glycerol- humectants that help water penetrate skin.
•Ceramides- help restore the skin’s natural oils.
•Hydroxy acids- remove dead skin cells from the surface.
•Niacinmide- helps the skin produce oil and reverses sun damage.
•Retinols- remove dead skin cells from the surface and rebuild collagen.
•Lanolin- lubricating emollient that can be potentially irritating to sensitive skin.
•Mineral oil- an occlusive that decrease evaporation in the skin, tends to be oily and can clog pores.
•Salicylic acid- an anti-bacterial acne fighting ingredient, can be too harsh for sensitive skin.
•Benzyl peroxide- another acne fighting ingredient, can also be too harsh on sensitive skin.
•Tocopherols- vitamin E, reduces damage caused by free radicals.
